Welcome

THE VISION

The Switch Class was created from an ambitious vision: to build a simple but very modern high-performance foiling dinghy class that combines exceptional performance and fun with accessibility, longevity, inclusiveness, and global scalability – all wrapped into a whole new level of easy to use and one-design rigour. From the beginning, the aim was not simply to create another foiling boat, but to create a platform and ecosystem capable of bringing together sailors from across the sport — from youth sailors entering high-performance pathways for the first time, the average recreational weekend sailor, the master, Corinthian or local club sailor, right through all the way up to professional, Olympic, SailGP and America’s Cup sailors, with real value (and fun) to offer each and every group. The result is a class that today attracts sailors from an exceptionally broad range of backgrounds and disciplines. Sailors enter the class from junior pathways, Olympic classes, skiff classes, foiling pathways such as the Waszp, traditional dinghy classes, keelboats, match racing, and professional sailing circuits. At the same time, the class creates a bridge into the highest levels of the sport, offering a genuine pathway towards professional foiling disciplines and campaigns. A core part of the vision has always been inclusiveness. The Switch platform was intentionally designed to support a wide range of sailor weights, ages, and experience levels through interchangeable rigs and adaptable configurations. The Class already supports a growing number of categories and divisions including: Youth, U23, Women, Lightweight, Masters and Grandmasters. With sailors ranging from teenagers through to sailors in their 60s and beyond already competing internationally. As we approach the end of year two, there will be an enormous focus on fun events, the Masters division and the local club sailors. Take a look at the divisions page linked below which outlines the growth plan for the first number of years. The platform itself was also designed around long-term thinking. Rather than pursuing the cheapest possible construction, the philosophy behind the Switch was to create equipment with exceptional performance longevity, durability, and consistency. The boat uses high-precision carbon/epoxy composite construction and strict one-design manufacturing controls to ensure that boats remain competitive over long ownership periods, maintain strong resale value, and reduce the need for constant replacement of parts and equipment. This approach supports a more sustainable and cost-effective model for high-performance sailing The Switch was specifically designed to dismantle efficiently for transport, with the vision that sailors could fly internationally with all major performance components — rigs, foils, and equipment — while chartering hulls locally. This “travel-light” concept dramatically reduces shipping costs, logistical complexity, and environmental impact. That vision is now becoming reality through the launch of the class’s international charter programme (see the programme linked below), allowing sailors to compete globally without transporting full boats. The modular rig system was also central to the original concept. Different mast and sail configurations allow the same platform to be used competitively across different sailor sizes, age groups, and conditions, creating a genuine long-term pathway within a single class ecosystem. At its heart, the Switch Class remains focused on delivering something that is fundamentally important: a boat that is exceptionally fun to sail. Silent foiling in light winds, high-speed racing in stronger conditions, close one-design competition, and a format capable of supporting everything from traditional regattas to sprint racing, relays, knock-outs, and endurance events all contribute to a class designed for the future of the sport. The vision of the Switch Class is therefore not just about a boat — it is about building a global, inclusive, and forward-looking high-performance sailing community.
