1 min read

The inaugural Switch Global Youth Championship in Malcesine on Lake Garda brought together 26 young sailors from 17 nations across three continents. Charter boats also made it easier for overseas competitors to take part.

Ten races were held over three days, with the strong northerly Pelèr wind creating challenging conditions. Malta’s Antonia Schultheis dominated the 7.5 division and claimed the women’s title. Denmark’s Camilla Svensson finished second, ahead of Ireland’s Hugh Doyle.

In the 8.5 fleet, Denmark’s Magnus Overbeck took victory with six race wins. Italians Mattia Cesana and Federico Bergamasco completed the podium. Global champion Paul Hameeteman finished fourth, underlining the high standard and rapid development of the young fleet.

The event highlighted the growing international appeal and accessibility of fast one-design foiling. As Schultheis noted, sailors do not need to be the strongest or tallest to enjoy the Switch.
